Wrongfully Convicted: The Juan Rivera Case (13h15 Le Samedi – France 2, 2011 – 30 min.) Director: Jennifer Luby
Three times, by three juries, even though no physical evidence from the scene — including fingerprints, skin fragments, blood, and hair — linked him to the crime, and even though law enforcement records indicated that he was on electronic monitoring at his home more than two miles from the scene when the crime occurred, Juan Rivera was convicted of the murder and rape of 11 year-old Holly Staker. When we met him in 2011, he had already spent nearly two decades in prison and was facing the rest of his life” behind bars. With the help of his lawyers, we revisited the investigation. A year later, he was exonerated.
